Jack Rodwell at City. Ok he has now gone to Sunderland is it or Stoke (one of them with stripes) and looks a shadow of the player who played at Everton.
The only way I can see a way of stopping players just being happy with warming the bench at a bigger Club is if the International Managers refuse to play players who aren't regular starters although that of course would only work with International standard players.

We need to keep youngtalented players like him. Southampton have sold young pkayers for vastly over the top prices these days so I agree.. only silly money 20 plus would tempt. Which will disuade most. If the Arse want 10 mil for Jenks you can see the money doesn'tgo far, young English left back more at a premium than right sided too.
Long contract.. keep him, lets watch him
improving at the OS

Scott Sinclair clearly was, he refused moves to stay on city's bench!
Trying to think of other examples of players who were good but settled for being a bench player most of their career?
I guess the trouble is a lot of these young players are constantly told how amazing they are that they probably genuinely believe they are good enough to oust established class players, the ego of a modern day (particularly British) footballer is unreal.

You'd think these players would twig that they are going to do nothing more than fill the bench and fill a quota. I supposed they are well rewarded for it.
When they look back on their careers with 50m in the bank instead of 30m, will they be happy that they wasted their prime years keeping a bench warm?
I suppose a lot of them are.

He isn't worth £25M, I know that.
But the fact is he is under contract. He is also only 25 years of age, English and left footed and those players are a premium. But more importantly, we don't want to sell him and have no need to sell him. So if City or Chelsea want him then they should get him on our terms and that for me would be £25M, especially if Luke Shaw went for £30M.

and as i said before do City do not have £10 million to spend on a reserve left back. Their money is needed to boost other areas
Chelsea could happen if Luis goes......especially with Bertrand departed although he'd be mad to go there
